Journeys throughout Costa Rica
Students will have weekends beginning at 12 on Fridays to explore Costa Rica. On three of these weekends, CRSIM offers guided trips to premiere national attractions. We also assist students with any individual trip they would like to make.
There are over hundreds of beaches, mountains, rivers and forests to visit. You can see turtles, whales, exotic birds, native tribes, coffee & banana plantations, manmade wonders and more. We’re sure you’ll find yourself trying new activities such as surfing, snorkeling, climbing, rafting, and ziplining to name a few.

Volcán Arenal
Volcán Arenal is an active volcano located about 90 km from San Jose, Costa Rica. Seeing the volcano rise out of a mostly flat landscape is breathtaking. One is easily reminded of the power and mystery of nature. Many visitors even get to see red lava flow at nightfall.
In addition to seeing the volcano, there are a number of outdoors activities including famous bathes in the numerous hot springs heated by the volcano. There is also a nearby lake providing recreational water activities. This is truly a tropical experience in the interior of Costa Rica.
Manuel Antonio National Park
Manuel Antonio is a nationally protected forest on the Pacific Coast. It’s world-renowned for it’s expansive green jungle that grows right up to the high tide line of expansive white sand beaches. Hikes through the park offer views of tropical birds, sloths, monkeys and a variety of other creatures. There are also secluded coves of turquoise water where one can relax and swim. Depending on the time of year, migrating dolphins and whales can be observed.
There are a number of restaurants and bars to entertain guests in the evenings, making this a relaxing getaway at the beach.
Playa Hermosa
Playa Hermosa offers a quiet retreat for visitors only 2 hours from San Jose. Famous for it’s waves, it is was home to the 2009 International Surf Associations World Surfing Games. The strong riptides that make great waves for surfing pose a hazard for swimmers. Depending on the time of year it’s sometimes better to suntan and play on the dark sand beach.
This is the most relaxing of the three trips and our students relax between the beach, hotel and restaurants. It’s the perfect trip for letting lessons from the classroom and Costa Rica settle in the mind.
